1924 A Sunday School was started by Sister Lillie Carver and her daughter Maud Carver Walton in the Carver home at 6016 Highland Street (now Henderson) in the town of Cedar Grove. This was the first known Church of God activity in the Shreveport area.

1925 A small church building was erected on E. 62nd Street near Fairfield in Cedar Grove. Fairfield Church of God was active at this location until 1938. Pastors included J.G. & Lillie Carver, M.B. Crawford, Olon Parr, W.S. Sturdivant, F.S. Gurden, Stanley Weaver, Earl Monzingo, and Paul Owens. Family names included Walton, Carver, Franks, Copeland, Carter, Ouzts, Blanchard, Miller, Carpenter, Gault, Ritchie, Eby, Turnley, Fletcher, Laing, Hebert, Wainwright, Sanford, Crawford, Roy, Lively, Samuelson, Stannart, Norman, Lyman, Tisdale and Darraugh.
1926 A new church started at 1539 Yale Street by M.B. Crawford and was known as First Church of God until about 1940 when the name was changed to Yale Street Church of God. The church was active at this location until 1947. Pastors included M.B. Crawford and M.E. Morace. Early family names included Edmund, Chaler, Peno, Call, Cheatwood, Smith, Endel, Rambin, Tiller, Summerlin, Jones, Sandifer, Dunham, and Broughton.
1927 Cedar Grove was annexed into Shreveport.
1932 A small group under the leadership of F.S. Gurden was worshipping in an auto repair garage at 79th Street and St. Vincent in South Cedar Grove. When Fairfield Church called Gurden as pastor, this group joined the Fairfield Church. This group included C.C. Horn and the Hugh Adams, Ira Weldon, and McInnis families.
1933 Extensive remodeling was accomplished at First Church of God, Yale Street.
1934 A small group under the leadership of Bob McKinney started worshipping on Mansfield Road near King Highway and was known as Highway Church of God. They disbanded after about 1 year. Family names included Martin, Ouzts, and Blanchard.
1938 Because many of the members were from South Cedar Grove, the Fairfield Church was moved to a new building at 7206 Southern and was known as Southern Avenue Church of God until about 1960. Pastors included J.G. & Lillie Carver, Sis. Joan Stallings, and J. A. Causey. Family names included Walton, Carver, Carter, Weldon, Adams, Horn, Franks, Ball, Blanchard, Ferguson, Grice, Sneed, Trotti, Causey, Biagioli, Eby, Anderson and Lyman.
1938 First Church (Yale Street) had a division. The group leaving worshipped in a store building on Laurel Avenue near Yale Street and was known as Laurel Avenue Church of God until about 1940. J.J. Coody was their pastor.
1938 A Pilgrim Holiness Church established earlier by W.S. Sturdivant at East 60th and Lexington in Cedar Grove became affiliated with the Church of God. Returned to Pilgrim Holiness about 1940.
1940 First Church (Yale Street) changed its name to Yale Street Church of God.
1940 New First Church (from Laurel Avenue) was established at 3202 Darien, Queensborough in the basement of their new building. Pastor was J.J. Coody.
1943 First Church constructed their new sanctuary above the basement previously mentioned. Pastors include J.J. Coody, John Stallings, Harold Stiff, Kenneth Morrison, Charles Long and George Ratcliff.
1946 A new group started worshipping in the Boy Scout Hut at West 70th and St. Vincent in Cedar Grove. Pastors included Billy Franks and J.A. Causey.
1950 Oakmont Church (from Boy Scout Hut) built their building at West 71st and Clift. Pastor was Billy Franks.
1951 Hollywood Church was established on Hollywood near Hearne. It was disbanded about 1975. Pastors included M.B. Crawford, Tommy Long, Henry De Pew and Linvel Arington.
1957 Yale Street Church relocated to their new location at 6805 West Canal in Sunset Acres. Name was changed to Sunset Church of God. Pastors included M.E. Morace, R.L. Arnold, Larry Smith, Frank B. Cummins, and Bill Phillips. Three remodeling projects have been accomplished with needed space added each time (approximately 1962, 1970 & 1975).
1960 First Church added a 2 story education wing (Darien Street Church).
1962 Oakmont built a new sanctuary at their same location (Clift Street). Later pastors here include David Radford & Henry Staggs.
1970 A small group started worshipping in Bossier City under the leadership of Billy Self. They disbanded in about 1972.
1973 First Church moved from the Darien location to 5024 Greenwood Road. Pastors since then included George Ratcliff, Roy Roper, and Dennis Patton.
1974 The Queensborough Church (black) settled into an existing building at 3238 West College after worshipping several years in various locations. Pastor was R.L. Stringer.
1977 Louisiana Kingdom Builders established a church in Bossier City worshipping in the Police Academy Building. Pastors included Larry Buford and James Smith.
1983 Sunset Church and First Church consolidated as Sunset Church of God on West Canal. Pastor was Bill Phillips and Associate Pastors Kenneth Church and Dennis Patton. A new sanctuary was planned to be built soon in the Huntington Park area of west Shreveport.
1983 First Church of God, Bossier City, moved into a new building on Airline Drive (Kingdom Builders). Pastors included James Smith, Don Medley, Steve Nelson, Rev. Watson and Johnny Creasong.
1985 Merged churches sold both properties on Greenwood Road and West Canal.
1986 First Church (merged Sunset and First Church) purchased old Friendship Academy site at 6808 Jefferson Paige Road. Much renovation was done. Pastors included Bill Phillips, Bill Oldham, Gene Hitt, Larry Earl, and Terry Arington.
1990 Queensborough Church moved to Sunset Boulevard and Jewella. Pastors included R.L. Stringer, Levi Cyrus, Luther Young and Bart Riggins.
1994 Oakmont moved into new facilities at 7505 West 70th Street. Pastor is Billy Franks.
1994 New Covenant Church (black) met temporarily in Oakmont’s facilities. Pastor was R.L. Stringer.
1998 New Covenant Church moved into new sanctuary on Pines Road. Pastor is R.L. Stringer.
2005 Oakmont built a larger sanctuary at present property on West 70th (3 buildings now).
2005 Hispanic church – Iglesia de Dios began meeting in Oakmont’s facilities.
2006 Long time Oakmont Pastor Billy Franks retired and Music Minister Doyce Smith became pastor.
2006 A church was planted in North DeSoto at Stonewall with David Radford as pastor. (They eventually purchased a lot with hopes for buying the adjoining one.)
2007 First Church sold property on Jefferson Paige Road and changed name of church to Hope Community Church of God with Pastor Terry Arington.
2008 Hope Community purchased two houses and 10 acres at 3247 Bert Kouns Industrial Loop. Interim pastor is Steve Nelson. Later that year, Rev. Steve Nelson was called to be full time senior pastor of Hope Community Church of God.
2009 North Desoto built new church building on Highway 171 in Stonewall.
2010 Hope Community Church of God completed and moved into their new church building at 3247 Bert Kouns Industrial Loop.
2023 Pastor Steve Nelson retires from 54 years of ministry.
