Fear of God: Reverent Awe

Mar 8, 2026    Pastor Chad Carter

The fear of God is not terror, punishment, or anxiety Fear is not found in God — fear exists apart from Him

The fear of God is a reverent awe, rooted in love

The fear of God recognizes: God’s holiness, God’s authority, God’s goodness, His right to define reality

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom

Proper fear of God:  Frees us from fear of people and circumstances Anchors us in truth

Produces holiness through relationship, not rule‑keeping

Fear of God makes us honest about sin, not casual with it

Our question shifts from: “How close can I get to the line? To “How can I honor and serve God?”

The fear of God is not restrictive — it is liberating

When we don’t fear God, we end up fearing everything else

Practicing the fear of God: Humility, Obedience, Reverent worship, Integrity

The fear of God: Drives out lesser fears

Grounds us in holiness

Strengthens obedience

Deepens worship

Personal reflection: How am I growing God’s Kingdom? What fears do I need to place in God’s hands? How will I be remembered?
