Small Steps of Faith, Big Moves of God, by Rev Joy Sherman

Most journeys begin by leaving the known and heading into the unknown. Many times, it seems like the easiest thing to do is stay put…don’t risk it, don’t put yourself out there for the fear of ridicule, for the failure. Sometimes we are so reluctant to leave a familiar situation that we stay in, maybe even stay in a dangerous situation rather than step out into uncertainty.

You are probably thinking that Peter climbing out of that boat was a huge step aren’t you? The step when you look at it is very small…

Peter is the only person that has walked on top of water without the assistance of devices, ropes, platforms and movie trickery…the step he took as very small in comparison to the miracle of walking on water that is the HUGE event.  To top it off, Peter knew who was coming on the water

Jesus told peter in verse 27 “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid”

Matthew 17:20 … Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.

Matthew 14:34-36 34 When they had crossed over, they landed at Gennesaret. 35 And when the men of that place recognized Jesus, they sent word to all the surrounding country. People brought all their sick to him 36 and begged him to let the sick just touch the edge of his cloak, and all who touched it were healed.

You can see in this passage that the word Faith is not used. You can see the EVIDENCE of their faith though…when they recognized Jesus that brought their sick…and begged just to touch the edge of his cloak…and all that did were healed. Amen.
