Which Way: Ambition

Pilate had the opportunity to keep Jesus from the cross.

He was his only witness, but he also knew the repercussions and backlash that would happen going against the Jews. He chose ambition over truth.

1.   Pilate let Christ speak on his own behalf

2.   He examined Christ privately

3.   He sent Christ to Herod, the governor of Galilee

4.   He told the people he found no fault in Christ

5.   He announced that Herod found no fault in Christ

6.   Pilate called Christ a just man

7.   He stood with Christ on the balcony and said behold the man: John 19:5  Jesus then came out, wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe. And Pilate *said to them, “Behold, the Man!”

8.   He sought to released Christ outright

9.   He tried to substitute Barabbas, a notorious revolutionist for Christ

10.  He had Christ scourged in an attempt to evoke sympathy from the Jews

11.   He brought out a bowl, washed his hands, and announced that he wanted no part in the personal guilt in what was being done to Christ
